First Cervical Vertebrae, also known as "Atlas"

C1, or Atlas, directly supports the base of the skull and, together with C2 allows for rotation of the head. As with the other cervical vertebrae, C1 posseses openings on either side through which run the ateries that supply blood to the brain.

Areas of the body:

Blood supply to head, the brain, middle and inner ears, pituitary gland, scalp, face and sympathetic nervous system.

Symptoms to watch for:

Headaches, nervousness, insomnia, head colds, hypertension, migraine, amnesia, chronic tiredness and dizziness
