Spine Explorer C1 First Cervical Vertebrae, also known as "Atlas" C1, or Atlas, directly supports the base of the skull and, together with C2 allows for rotation of the head. As with the other cervical vertebrae, C1 posseses openings on either side through which run the ateries that supply blood to the brain.
